Blueberry Trail
Location:
Coreys Road, Tupper Lake

Located in between Tupper Lake and Saranac Lake off of the Coreys Road, the Blueberry Trail is a moderate, low elevation hike in the High Peaks Wilderness Area. It is mainly used as a way to reach the peaks in the Seward Range, but can be hiked by itself to the end, where a lean-to is.

Key takeaways

  • Distance: 9.2 miles
  • Elevation gain: 740 feet
  • Hike includes bridges and trail junctions

Hiking the Blueberry Trail

This hike travels through the forest in the High Peaks, leading to the Blueberry lean-to. At 0.8 miles in, keep left at the junction and continue to another well-marked junction at 1.3 miles. Read the signs, and continue straight along the Blueberry Trail. Along the way, the trail undulates a bit, and crosses a couple minor streams that can swell a bit after rainfall. The lean-to is reached at around 4.6 miles. Near the lean-to, there are also a couple designated primitive tent sites. The official Blueberry Trail goes a tad past the Blueberry lean-to, then turns into the Ward Brook Truck Trail at a t-intersection.

Blueberry Trail in the winter

During the winter and shoulder seasons, the Corey's Road gate closes and adds 6 miles and 500 feet of gain, round trip. It does sometimes stay open, but do not expect that to be the case. Cross-country skiers often ski the road in if it's closed, as well as ski the Blueberry Trail itself. You can snowshoe this trail as well. This is an isolated range, and even though it is a starting point for 46er peaks, you need to be prepared for all winter conditions.
