Tupper Lake, NY is in the heart of totality for the April 8, Total Solar Eclipse with a whopping 3 minutes and 35 seconds of totality.  It is “Eclipse Central” for those wanting to experience a festival-like environment before, during, and after the eclipse.

The Adirondack Sky Center & Observatory has numerous family-oriented activities planned, and has partnered with the entire community to provide a fun, informative, engaging, and safe experience for all visitors.  A 36’ mega-screen will provide numerous multimedia experiences throughout the weekend.  Music, food, and entertainment will be provided for this once-in-a-lifetime celestial event.

Below are just some of the activities and events currently being planned by the Adirondack Sky Center & Observatory.  Check back for updates and additions to the schedule as other organizations' plans are made.  Modification of the overall schedule may occur as more events are finalized.

 

Sunday, April 7th

  • 10:00 AM - Activity:  Modeling Meaningful Eclipses

  • 10:00 AM & 3:00 PM - Instruction:  Solar Imaging

  • 11:00 AM - Activity:  Making Cereal Box Viewers

  • 11:00 AM & 1:00 PM - Activity:  Making Shadows

  • 4:00 PM - Activity:  PI in the Sky

  • 7:00 PM - Activity:  Measuring Solar Energy During an Eclipse

  • 7:00 PM - Music in the Park

  • 9:00 PM - Fireworks Display at the Municipal Park 

Monday, April 8th

  • 9:00 AM - Activity:  PI in the Sky

  • 10:00 AM - Activity:  How Can the Little Moon Hide the Giant Sun?

  • 10:00 AM - Activity:  Exploring Earth:  Bear’s Shadow

  • 10:00 AM - Instruction:  Solar Imaging

  • 11:00 AM - Activity:  Beach Ball Demonstration

  • 11:00 AM - Guest Speaker

  • 12:00 PM - Activity:  Cereal Box Viewers

  • 1:00 PM - Demonstration:  Measuring the Effects of an Eclipse on the Ionosphere

  • During the Eclipse:

    • 36’ Screen broadcast of NASA’s live stream as the eclipse passes through Kerrville, Texas; Indianapolis, Indiana; and Cleveland, Ohio on its way to Tupper Lake.   (The Adirondack Sky Center & Observatory is being considered as a 4th site for NASA’s live stream broadcast.)

  • 7:00 PM - Music in the Park

  • 9:00 PM - Fireworks Display at the Municipal Park
