Guided Birding & Hiking Tour 

Explore the Adirondacks with Joan Collins on a scenic hike to Hitchins Pond and the Upper Dam on the Bog River. This guided nature walk combines birdwatching, wildlife viewing, and optional mountain hiking—perfect for outdoor enthusiasts looking to experience the beauty of the Long Lake region.

Meeting Location:
Geiger Arena Parking Area, Long Lake (across from the Post Office). Transportation to the trailhead provided on Long Lake’s “Little Bus.” If traveling from the north, alternate pick-up locations are available.

What to Bring:

  • Food (lunch can be ordered at departure)
  • Water
  • Jacket and appropriate hiking attire/shoes
  • Binoculars
  • Hat and sunscreen

Highlights of the Hike:

  • Birding & Wildlife: Spot Common Loons, Bald Eagles, and Great Blue Herons along the trail and at Hitchins Pond.
  • Scenic Terrain: Walk 2.5 miles on level dirt roads through diverse habitats—boreal bog, marsh, mixed forest, ponds, and lakes.
  • Picnic Lunch: Enjoy a break at Hitchins Pond with the option to order a warm Panini from the Adirondack Trading Post, delivered picnic-side.
  • Optional Hike: Add a 2-mile round trip up Low’s Ridge for panoramic views of the Bog River Valley and Adirondack High Peaks.

  • Distance: 5 miles round trip (7 miles with Low’s Ridge option)
  • Amenities: Outhouse at Hitchins Pond, restroom at Geiger Arena
