Explore the night sky and watch a piece of a rocket slam into the moon!

A piece of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket is expected to slam into the moon on Wednesday around 2:35 a.m.

The Adirondack Sky Center & Observatory will be live streaming this dead rocket that slams into the moon at 5400 mph creating a new crater 10 to 20 m in diameter; we hope to see the debris cloud as it shoots up
800,000 pounds of debris above the moons surface!

Observations are expected to continue after the moment of impact, since the development of the dust cloud during the following minutes may be the clearest and most scientifically significant part of the event.

It was part of the Falcon 9 rocket that carried two lunar landers and scientific instruments to the moon in January 2025. The  part of the rocket's upper portion and about the size of a five-story building.

This event is FREE and open to the public.
