This route is a mix of horse trails, old logging roads, and hilly terrain. A long ski which ends at lean-tos for fine winter camping.
Trailhead
From the intersection of Route 30 and Route 3 in Tupper Lake follow Route 3/30 toward Saranac Lake. Continue To Coreys Road on the right. Follow Coreys Road for 5.25 miles to the trailhead parking lot on the right.
* In winter there are occasions when the road past the Raquette Falls Trailhead could be closed, unplowed, icy or impassable. There are some steep hills past the Raquette Falls Trailhead and could be dangerous in winter for vehicle travel. Please use road with caution or ski the three mile road approach to the trailhead.
Cross-country skiing
From the trailhead start your ski along an old woods road; wide and flat. After a short climb take a left at the horse trail intersection and continue along the foot trail. There are a few hills to contend with before you come to another horse trail intersection (old woods road), head straight and continue on the narrower foot trail. Rolling hills is what you will have throughout the ski, only a couple of those rolling hills can pose a decent little challenge, but most are a blast.
- Elevation Gain/Loss to Destination: ~520 feet gain
- Distance Round Trip: 12.25 miles
Camping
Eventually you will pop out onto the Ward Brook Truck Trail which is wide and relatively flay. It will remain this way to the #4 lean-tos.
