Dining spots you won't want to miss

If you do it right, eating isn't just about taking in nourishment. Food is a celebration: it's family time, laughs with friends, trying something new with your sweetheart, and creating memories. Oh, and tasty food, of course, food so delicious you want to write a poem about it. Eating is about a community, whether you're part of a big family (hello, kids table at Thanksgiving) or a smaller, but not necessarily quieter, group. Tupper Lake, a small but mighty community, is not only a great place for a vacation, it is also a wonderful place to enjoy a meal. From dawn to well after dusk, Tupper Lake has plenty of options for big appetites!

Breakfast

I'll be honest with you: breakfast is by far my favorite meal. I could eat breakfast all day and sometimes I do. Locals in Tupper Lake must agree with me, because there are several excellent spots for a tasty, home-cooked breakfast that, yes, is fit for a lumberjack. Whether a thick stack of fluffy pancakes is your thing, or you want a classic dish of eggs, toast, and home fries, we have plenty of options. And donuts, too!

Main Street Restaurant

For breakfast classics, visit the Main Street Restaurant, a cozy, rustic spot with plenty of great flavor. Guests with hearty appetites should tackle the steak and eggs, while others will find that the omelets and breakfast burrito are full of flavor without being too heavy. The Main Street Restaurant is very family friendly and diners of all ages will find something they love. Be sure to save room for the home fries!

Bonus quick breakfast: Washboard Donut Shop

Whether you have all day or just a few minutes, I implore you to stop at the Washboard Donut Shop for a hot, fresh, and almost supremely perfect donut: crisp on the outside, fluffy on the inside. The Washboard offers classics like powdered sugar, cinnamon sugar, and chocolate frosted, but they are also beloved — and locally famous — for twists like the sweet and salty maple bacon frosted donut. My advice: buy one, eat it, and then buy some more. No one will blame you if you plan your vacation around these donuts. It's what people do here.

Lunch

One of Tupper Lake's Park Street gems, Reandeau's Swiss Kitchen is a family owned restaurant serving local flavors, with a great selection of burgers, comfort food, and poutine, a local favorite.

An old-fashioned family restaurant diner, with booths and a counter.

Dinner

Raquette River Brewing

Amado

You'd be hard pressed to find another restaurant like Amado in the Adirondacks, or even all of New York. Chef-owned and -operated, Amado features fine dining dishes in a warm, casual, unpretentious environment. With inspiration from all over the globe, the dishes at Amado are unique and full of flavor. Try the famous pot pie or the aromatic Brazilian moqueca. Amado has dining space indoors and out, with outdoor options ranging from a gardenside table for two to private greenhouse dining full of amenities. 2021 will bring an expansion of the garden, with a new space for outdoor live music and a bar.

Dessert

Skyline Ice Cream

For a summer sweet treat, you can't go wrong with a stop at Skyline Ice Cream! All the classics, from soft serve to hot fudge sundaes, will keep the whole family happy. Fancy a legendary Dole whip? They have those too! With a full menu of roadside fare such as Michigans, burgers, and poutine, Skyline is the perfect way to end the day!

Tupper Lake is full of exciting adventures, cozy spots to snuggle, fun for the whole family, and of course, awesome food. Indulge a little, enjoy a lot, and make memories over a donut or two. You'll be glad you did and soon enough you'll be ready for more.
