Best of Summer - Events Roundup

Summer is one of the best times to visit Tupper Lake, not only because the weather is perfect for swimming, hiking, paddling, you name it... but it's also when event season hits full swing. In fact, in the summer it feels like not a day goes by that there isn't live music somewhere, a guided tour happening, or a cool workshop scheduled, but for now lets focus on the BIG events! It's so hard to narrow it down... but for the sake of not listing the entire events calendar, here are 8 events you won't want to miss!

1. Great Adirondack Garage Sale

May 27-28, 2016

This Memorial Day weekend, the summer events schedule starts out of the gate with a bang, as Tupper Lake — along with 19 other Adirondack communities — hosts the Great Adirondack Garage Sale. Offering over 200 miles of sales along some of the most gorgeous byways in New York State, the Great Adirondack Garage Sale will have tons of great finds for everyone from the casual bargain hunter to the avid antique collector. Don't miss this treasure hunting extravaganza, grab you garage sale shopping friends and head to the 'Dacks to make it a weekend to remember.

2. Tupper Lake Triathlon

June 25, 2016

For 34 years, athletes from all over the Northeast & Canada have made their way to Tupper Lake each June for the annual Tinman Triathlon. Dubbed as one of the longest running half-ironman races in the US, this race not only has legacy -- but a beautiful course to back it up. Offering 5 racing classes/distances — the Tinman (half-iron), Olympic, Sprint, Aquabike, and Team Relay — it has challenges for everyone from beginner triathletes to seasoned-pros who are looking for a great mountain course to tune up on. But more than anything, this race offers a unique grass-routes culture that is sometimes lacking from larger corporate-run operations. Everyone from the first person who greets you at athlete check-in on Friday, to the volunteer who hands you your medal as you cross the finish line, is there because they love this race, this community, and they want every athlete to enjoy it as much as they do. So, if you are looking for a racing experience to remember, we are sure the Tupper Lake Triathlon will be for you.

3. Independence Day Weekend

July 3, 2016

On Independence Day weekend there is always a flurry of activity happening in and around Tupper Lake. From treasure hunting in the annual Community-Wide Garage Sale to catching some of the action at the Old Home Softball Tourney, there truly are events around every turn. Of course, it is Independence Day, so fireworks are in order, right? We've got those too! Join us for a spectacular fireworks display, set against the backdrop of Raquette Pond. The fireworks show starts right after dusk on Sunday, July 3 at the Tupper Lake Municipal Park.

4. Tupper Lake Woodsmen's Days

July 9-10, 2016

The second weekend in July is when the loggers come out of the woods and into the Tupper Lake Municipal Park to host the annual Tupper Lake Woodsmen's Days. This weekend long-festival is designed to celebrate the region's storied heritage of lumberjacking with activities, contests, demonstrations, and more. Woodsmen's Days kicks off on July 9th with the annual gala parade and continues through the weekend with chainsaw carving contests, logging competitions, a full children's activity lineup, the legendary night games, and so much more. Don't miss this must-see event!

5. Warrior Run

July 16, 2016

Do you think you are tough enough to be crowned a warrior? The 5th Annual Tupper Lake Warrior Run at Big Tupper Ski Area will once again have crowds of individuals tackling their way through the 3.5 mile course. Featuring harrowing obstacles, unforgiving terrain, and lots of mud, join the race or cheer the competitors on as they make their way to the finish line. Enjoyed by everyone from your mud race newbie to the obstacle race junkie, the course will challenge you both physically and mentally as you work your way up the mountainside and through the one-of-a-kind obstacles. Don't miss your chance to see if you've got what it takes; grab a team of your favorite people or choose to tough it out on your own, either way sign up is open!

6. Rock the Arc

August 13, 2016

Rock the Arc is one of Tupper Lake's newest annual events, however it has quickly become a must-attend on the annual events calendar. After all, who doesn't love music, food, games, and fireworks all with FREE admission!? On August 13th, the Adirondack ARC will once again be presenting this awesome music festival to support the needs of people with developmental disabilities. Gates open at noon, live music begins at 1 p.m., and there are activities for the whole family taking place throughout the day. There will also be the annual 500-club raffle drawing where someone will win $10,000 just as the first fireworks begin to light up the night sky.

7. BeachFest

August 20, 2016

Life's a beach... or in this case a BeachFest! On Saturday, August 20th, the Town of Tupper Lake will host the 3rd annual BeachFest at Little Wolf Beach in Tupper Lake. This is a great event for the whole family as it features games, activities, and competitions for all ages. But the showcase of the entire event is always the breathtaking sand sculpture! Throughout the day and between competitions be sure to take a swim in Little Wolf Pond, grab a bite at the food shack, and soak in the sunshine.
