Things are Blooming...

Things are shaping up for summer...
Things are shaping up for summer...

This time of year truly has to be one of my favorite! Spring wildflowers are in full bloom, the leaves have popped and are now glisten their youthful, chartreuse-green color, and momentum into summer is quickly building. This is also the time of the year when businesses are busy getting their places jazzed up and ready for summer visitors. Restaurants and pubs have their outdoor seating calling your name, construction is at full swing, and the summer events calendar is being populated at a speed that is hard to stay on top of.

On the music front this year, it's sounding like it is going to be a great season. New events are being added to the calendar, music series dates and artists have been announced, and returning events have their performance lineups booked and ready to go.

2015 Summer Music Preview

The music lineup in Tupper Lake so far looks as though it has a little something for every music lover out there. Here is a quick preview of what is in store for the summer of 2015...

In 2012, P-2's Irish Pub on Main Street in Tupper Lake, converted the historic Franklin Dairy Building, on Pine Street (behind the iconic pub), into a fun and funky music hall. Ever since, the building has been breathing a new life as it hosts a variety of different performing artists annually.

On Saturday, August 8, The Adirondack Arc will once again draw people in for the annual Rock the Arc concert. For this 3rd annual event, Rock the Arc has quite the lineup scheduled for the Tupper Lake Municipal Park. The day will not only include live performances from: Flame, Reflections, Lost Dog and Double Axel, but will also feature a children's play area, face painting, rock wall, food and other cool vendors. In addition, P2′s Irish Pub will be there with their famous beer tent serving up cold drinks while you dance the night away to the spectacular fireworks finale.

But what really makes this FREE concert so amazing is the program it supports. The event is put together by The Adirondack Arc, a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to help those with developmental disabilities. This mission is incorporated right into their show. The band, Flame, will be the opening act at Rock the Arc. Flame is made up of a group of talented musicians from upstate New York who happen to have developmental disabilities. Through their love of music they have found that they can use the universal language of music to show people all over the world what is possible when you focus on one's abilities as opposed to disabilities. The band has performed across the United States and Europe, and has released 5 albums. The band will take to the stage at 1pm, and the performance sounds like it should be a "do-not-miss" on our summer calendar.

Wounded Warrior Fund Benefit Shows

The Tupper Lake Moose Lodge, in conjunction with Scott Gravlin and Last Breath Entertainment, is bringing a couple of cool new shows to the table this summer, both of which will support the Wounded Warrior Fund.

The Spirit of Johnny Cash - June 13, 2015

On Saturday, June 13, 2015, The Spirit of Johnny Cash will perform live at the Tupper Lake Moose Club on Cedar Street in Tupper Lake. "Harold Ford's (The Johnny Cash tribute artist) voice and physical resemblance to Johnny Cash are unmistakable," states event promoters. The Sprit of Johnny Cash will perform with special guests: The Jones Boys featuring Larry Reandeau on Steel Guitar. Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door.

Warriorfest: Featuring Whey Jennings & The Unwanted - August 29, 2015

Other Venues & Events

So far we have only begun to cover some of the great music lined up in Tupper Lake this summer and much of it is still being planned as we speak. If you are looking to check out some live music while you are in the area, here are some other places to check out.

The Marketplace Pub & Deli

The recently expanded Marketplace Pub & Deli, on The Tupper-Saranac Highway, hosts a wide variety of performers throughout the year. Join them most Friday evenings for unique dinner & drink specials paired up with live music and entertainment.

Raquette River Brewing

The new brewery on Balsam Street in Tupper Lake has been brewing up plans for more than just great beer. New in 2015, they have added a beer garden where they are planning on hosting a variety of musicians this summer. While you are there grab a bite to eat from Arthur's On The Road, Food Truck which is on site serving up a great menu at the brewery.

The Warrior Run Music Festival

Following the annual Warrior Run obstacle race at Big Tupper Ski Area, you will find the Warrior Run Music Festival. This year's festival will begin at noon on Saturday, July 18, 2015 and will feature live music from Third Shift & Holographic Horse.

The Wild Center

Once again, The Wild Center will also hosts a variety of music programs throughout the season. A couple of the programs that you can enjoy this summer:

  • The Lake Placid Sinfonietta will perform in the Big Wolf Great Hall on July 16, 2015. Listen to works by Beethoven, Mozart, Strauss, and American composer Leroy Anderson with one of the loveliest indoor backdrops in the Adirondacks.
  • A Grand Night for Singing is scheduled for Friday, July 10, 2015. Enjoy an exciting showcase of the music of Richard Rodgers and the lyrics of Oscar Hammerstein II. A Grand Night for Singing is a musical revue of time-tested classics intermixed with some lesser known selections.
