This is a great trip for beginning paddlers! One of the three Triad paddles, this is a perfect family paddle. You’ll meander through streams, ponds, and rivers to get to Axton Landing. Go as fast or slow as you’d like on this relaxing trip.

How to get there

From the intersection of Route 30 and Route 3 in Tupper Lake, follow Route 3 towards Saranac Lake. Keep right on Route 3 at the "Y." In about 2.5 miles Corey's Road will be on the right. Turn here and continue down to the state boat launch at Stony Creek Ponds.

Paddling

This is a fun and easy trip with no portages. Once you navigate off Stony Creek Ponds and enter the Raquette River, it will be all downstream. Relax and enjoy the scenery as the gentle currents guide you to Axton Landing.

Winding down this waterway, you’ll find lots of birds, from small, sweet songbirds to vigilant herons and common loons on the hunt. A bald eagle might even fly overhead!
