Just south of Tupper Lake, in the Horseshoe Wild Forest in the Town of Piercefield, the Bog River pours into the southern tip of Big Tupper Lake via a beautiful set of falls. The upper portion of the waterfall splits around a small island. The bottom and steeper portion of the falls travels under a stone bridge and then cascades into Big Tupper Lake.

How to get there

From the Village of Tupper Lake, take New York State Route 30 south to Route 421. Turn right onto Route 421 and travel for 0.75 miles. At this point, you will cross the falls via a bridge and will find a small parking area with room for approximately 6-7 vehicles to your left.

Walking

From the parking lot, there are herd paths that give you access to both sides of the river. Paths lead to the top of the falls and to the shore of Tupper Lake itself. Take in the spectacular picturesque view from the stone bridge as well. Large flat rocks to the sides of the falls offer the perfect spot to sunbathe or enjoy a picnic lunch.

Birding

Loons are especially plentiful in this area. Be on the lookout for osprey, ravens, or even a bald eagle.

Fishing

There is great fishing at the base of falls, where the water spills into the lake. This was historically a brook trout fishery, with largemouth bass introduced in the 1980's with great success.
