Workshop Overview

Over 20 years’ experience teaching and coaching and working with many different learning styles. We will be covering:

  • How to select a painting location
  • How to edit the scene to include only what you want, and add elements for a strong painting
  • Tips and encouragement on painting a study outside to bring back to the studio to finish


8:30 Meet at Raquette River Brewing, Tupper Lake NY

8:30-9:30 Overview of the plan for the day

Muffins and water provided. Please bring your own favorite morning beverage

9:30-Noon Individuals drive themselves to the painting location.

Short demo in water color and oil

Artists find location and subject matter to paint and setup

Noon - 1 Lunch break

1-4/4:30 Paint. Martin will provide help and suggestions to each individual artist at their easel.

4:30-5 Drive to Raquette River Brewing

5-6pm Critique and social including one glass of beer or wine.

There are food trucks at Raquette River Brewing if you wish to stay for dinner on your own. I will continue to be available until 7pm for any additional questions or conversation.

Participants need to supply all their own materials. A list of suggested materials will be emailed to all registrants. All mediums are welcome with experience levels from beginner to intermediate. Maximum 10 participants.

We will be painting in a public location in Tupper Lake that has public restroom facilities. 

About the Artist

Martin is a nationally collected artist raised in the Tupper Lake and currently resides in Colorado. For the last 20 years he has returned to the Adirondacks every fall to paint the beauty the area has to offer. He has studied with Robert Moore, Michael Untiedt, Albert Handell, Doug Dawson, Scott Christenson (online).While primarily painting in oil, Martin has worked in all mediums including watercolor, pastel, and acrylic.
