Adirondack Experience, the Museum on Blue Mountain Lake
Called "The best of its kind in the world" by the New York Times, the museum's 24 indoor and outdoor exhibit buildings are situated on 40-plus landscaped acres, offering spectacular mountain and lake views.
The museum can be enjoyed rain or shine. The exhibits house the definitive collection of Adirondack artifacts in the country, including rustic furnishings, classic wooden boats, a luxury rail car, carriages, sleighs, logging equipment, Great Camps, and Adirondack hotel memorabilia. Two new exhibitions feature landscapes by renowned artist Ellen Phelan and traditional Mohawk basketry.
Interactive discovery centers throughout the exhibits abound with many hands-on activities, making the museum a fun place to learn for families with children.
Watch boatbuilder-in-residence Allison Warner construct a traditional Adirondack guide boat, see Mohawk basketmakers creating their contemporary takes on traditional Native American basketry, and more. You'll also find woodsmen's tool demonstrations along with special activities for children of all ages in the one-room Reising Schoolhouse.
Schedule behind-the-scenes tours of the Collections Study and Storage Center, featuring more than 10,000 objects. See canoes, carriages, rustic furnishings, antique motorboats, a 1936 fire truck, toboggans, and much more.
Visit the Store where you'll find great Adirondack gifts, books, posters, furnishings, plush animals, art, clothing, and jewelry. The Lake View Cafe is available for lunch and snacks. Enjoy fresh soups, salads, sandwiches, cakes, ice cream, fountain drinks, and more, while overlooking beautiful Blue Mountain Lake. Daily specials provide a taste of the seasons.
